Why I took a break from Instagram

If you follow me on Instagram, you will have seen that I've taken a little (and much needed) break from Instagram over the festive season. And all forms of social media actually. Considering we are a in an era where we are addicted to social media, this little break was one of the best things I've done in a long time.

I decided to have a little time off the 'gram because it was starting to take over a little. I was becoming obsessed with posting, and then seeing how/if my posts were doing well (or not as it seems to be these days). Some people may think being an 'instagrammer' or blogger is as simple as taking a photo and uploading it and it's a pretty ignorant concept. It's actually quite exhausting having to constantly think about what content you're going to create and how my engagement is going to be. I decided that I didn't want to be that person who was sat on their phone whilst everyone else was enjoying their Christmas dinner, so I decided to log off for a little while (bar a few drunk Instagram stories that were more for the lol's than the engaging, quality content).

With Instagram's constant changing algorithms and feeds, putting all your faith and all your worth in an app that you don't own or have any control over does not fill me with confidence. I did wonder at one point whether to give up this blog; Instagram was where it's at, where all the money was made and the followers were and you can post a quick pic with WAY more ease than a blog post like this. But then, what happens when Instagram isn't all that any more? Or, god forbid, Instagram is one day no longer. You've put all your eggs in one basket, in the wise words of every Love Island contestant.

I've decided that blogging definitely isn't over, for me anyway. I have total control over here. So here I am, back in business, new camera in tow (thanks to my wonderful boyfriend) and ready to take on 2019. And this year, I'm over worrying. I'm creating the content that I enjoy, not what I think is going to do well on Insta. I'm enjoying more moments, rather than creating moments for Insta. And I'm going to make some amazing memories and hopefully some equally amazing content for you guys to enjoy.
